4-Hour BDI Course
Students typically select this option when they have received a traffic citation and elected to attend traffic school in order to avoid points and insurance penalties (in most instances, as set forth in §626.9541, Florida Statutes). Students who complete the BDI course might also be eligible for the following benefits:
- * Maintain "safe driver" status per requirements set forth in §318.14(9), Florida Statutes
- * Receive 18% reduction in base fine amount
Ordinarily, in order to ensure that a completion will be acceptable to the clerk of court in the county in which the citation (ticket) was issued, the citation recipient must sign an affidavit with the clerk of the court attesting to his or her compliance with the aforementioned section of Florida Statutes before completing the course. IMPORTANT NOTE FOR DRIVERS WITH CDL'S: Effective 2005, holders of Commercial Driver's Licenses (CDL's) are no longer eligible to elect to attend a Basic Driver Improvement course for point dismissal, regardless of whether the ticket was received in a personal or a commercial vehicle. If you hold a Florida CDL, you should not select this option for course attendance!
Completion Reporting:
When you successfully complete the course, your certificate will be e-mailed to you automatically. Most courts require that the course completion certificate be submitted to the court by the individual who elected to attend traffic school. In some instances, the court will also direct the school to report student completions. Regardless of the method of completion reporting determined by the court, you will be held responsible for ensuring that you receive credit for completion of your BDI course.
